An Homage to Fine Art Prints in Dallas

Roy Lichtenstein Retrospective at the Whitney

The fine art prints of some of America’s most talented contemporary artists are currently on view at the Dallas Museum of Art.

X Marks the Spot showcases the work done in collaboration with Brand X Editions founder, Robert Blanton.

Blanton is a master printmaker. He began his career in 1974 at Styria Studio in New York, collaborating with fine artists like James Rosenquist, Robert Rauschenberg and Roy Lichtenstein. In 1979 Blanton opened Brand X Editions in New York City.

Many of our favorite artists, whose works are available at VFA, collaborate with Brand X and have work on view in the exhibit, including Alex Katz, Deborah Kass, Rashid Johnson, Robert Indiana, Helen Frankenthaler, Chuck Close, Donald Sultan and Loie Hollowell.

“Many people are familiar with screenprinting, but few truly understand the creative feats that underlie these works of art,” said Dr. Emily Friedman, who co-curated the Dallas Museum exhibit. “There’s no better way to introduce audiences to this medium and its many possibilities than through the work of Brand X Editions, a printer and publisher that has had an outsized impact on the practice of contemporary screenprinting. The works on view in this exhibition illustrate Brand X’s special alchemy of artistic collaboration and technical mastery,”

X Marks the Spot was organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and traveled to the Dallas Museum, where it will be on exhibit through November 8, 2026.

A retrospective of Roy Lichtenstein’s works opens at the Whitney Museum of American Art on Sunday, October 11th.

Roy Lichtenstein: Like New includes paintings, drawings, collages, prints, photographs, sculpture and even a three-channel film, all made between the early 1940s and mid-1990s.

Lichtenstein died in 1997, at the age of 73. Although his works are known throughout the world, he has not had a New York retrospective in more than 30 years.

The Lichtenstein Foundation, led by his wife, Dorothy Lichtenstein (1939-2024) donated about 400 works to the Whitney along with their former Greenwich Village house and studio, which has become the new home of the Whitney Independent Study Program.

Roy Lichtenstein: Like New will be on view at the Whitney from October 11, 2026 through May 10, 2027.
