Hamptons Fine Art Fair July 9-12

Rashid Johnson Honored. Frank Stella's Star in Jacksonville

We’re getting ready for the 20th edition of the  Hamptons Fine Art Fair at the Southampton Fairgrounds from July 9-12.

Over 130 selected galleries from around the world will take part in the Fair, showcasing paintings and works on paper, sculpture, photography and art glass by modern and contemporary artists.

For us, at Vertu Fine Art, the Fair gives us a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new collectors and to share the experience of viewing the exceptional works, on display at our gallery, in person.

Hope to see you there.

Rashid Johnson (b.1977)  has been elected to the Board of Trustees of The Mellon Foundation. The Foundation has been supporting artists and art institutions with grants since 1969. In 2004, the Foundation was awarded the National Medal of Arts.

“The Mellon Foundation has long understood something that I think about every time I walk into my studio: that art is not a luxury, it is a necessity,” Johnson said. “The questions I’ve spent my career exploring - about identity, history, interiority, and what it means to be fully human - are the same questions the humanities have always grappled with. I’m humbled and excited to bring my perspective to this board and to support the Foundation’s work in bringing those questions to wider audiences.”

Johnson’s works are in the permanent collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Fondation Louis Vuitton. Last year a retrospective of his work, Rashid Johnson: A Poem for Deep Thinkers was on view at the Guggenheim. It is currently on view at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and will run through September 27, 2026.

Frank Stella (1936-2024) was one of America’s greatest modern artists. His minimalist Black Paintings, done in the 1950s, secured his place in art history. Stella added color and form to his works and, in the last years of his life, he began to create large-scale sculptures.

The last major sculpture that he did, Stacked Stars, has been installed at The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville (MOCA), part of Arts UNF at the University of North Florida. The sculpture was installed to celebrated MOCA’s 100th anniversary.
