Dana Schutz is an American painter born on October 4, 1976, in Livonia, Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2000 and her Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University in 2002.

 

Schutz's work is known for its bold, gestural style and imaginative approach to narrative. She often explores themes of violence, politics, and popular culture in her paintings, which are characterized by their vivid colors and expressive brushwork. Some of her most famous works include "Swimming, Smoking, Crying," "Frank from Observation," and "Shaking Out the Bed."

 

Throughout her career, Schutz has exhibited her work in numerous museums and galleries around the world. She has received several prestigious awards, including the MacArthur Fellowship in 2011 and the Artist Award from the New York Studio School in 2015.
