Cristina BanBan was born in Barcelona in 1987. Her parents encouraged her interest in art, At the age of five she took lessons at an after school art program. Her father would drive her the 5 o'clock class on his motorcycle and wait one or two hours while she studied.
She attended the after school program for about twelve years and, as a teenager, began to teach painting and drawing to younger children in the program.
She earned a BFA at the University of Barcelona and moved to London in 2012, where she began to focus on painting.
BanBan moved to New York just before Covid his and lockdowns began. She said that time in the city was lonely, but gave her the opportunity to focus on developing her skills and style.
Her works are in the permanent collection of the FLAG Art Foundation in New York , Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Marquez Art Projects and the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Spain, the
Long Museum, the Pond Society and the Longlati Foundation in Shanghai, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid in Spain.
Cristina BanBan lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
