Liliana Porter is an Argentine-born artist who has gained international acclaim for her thought-provoking and playful works that explore themes of memory, identity, and the passage of time. She was born in 1941 in Buenos Aires and began her artistic career as a printmaker, creating intricate etchings and engravings.

 

In the 1960s, Porter moved to New York City, where she began to experiment with new mediums and techniques, including photography, video, and installation. Her work during this period often incorporated found objects and everyday materials, and explored the relationship between the viewer and the artwork.

 

Throughout her career, Porter has remained committed to exploring the power of art to evoke emotions and stimulate the imagination. She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Venice Biennale.

 

One of Porter's most famous works is "El hombre con el hacha y otras situaciones breves" ("The Man with the Axe and Other Brief Situations"), a series of miniature scenes depicting various surreal and humorous scenarios. The work reflects Porter's interest in the absurdity of everyday life and the ways in which we construct our own realities.

 

Today, Porter continues to create innovative and thought-provoking works that challenge and inspire viewers.
